Faction Units of the Global Defense Initiative (GDI)


Infantry:

Riflemen
Cost: $300
Function: Small Arms Tactical Assault
Description: The Riflemen infantry are the boots on the ground. They perform tactical assaults as well as support armored units. They are built in squads and are armed with light machine guns. They are also able to garrison buildings and can create a Foxhole to take cover in.
Rocket Troopers
Cost: $400
Function: Anti-Vehicle/Anti-Air Support
Description: The GDI Rocket Infantry's sole purpose is to support GDI infantry and ground units against enemy vehicles and attacking air units. They are built in squads and they are armed with rocket launchers, featuring a longer range than Riflemen. However, they are weak against enemy infantry.
Zone Trooper
Cost: $1300
Function: Advanced Tactical Assault
Description: The Zone Trooper is a heavily armoured unit that can access the most problematic areas of the battlefield, using its jumpjet. They are built in smaller squads than basic infantry. They are armed with a deadly railgun type weapon, being slow, but strong against infantry and vehicles. They can receive several upgrades from the Armory.
Sniper
Cost: $1000
Function: Anti-Personnel
Description: They are built in squads of two, one is the spotter and the other one the sniper. The sniper can kill infantry units slowly, but in a long range, while the spotter can call in artillery strikes from one of your juggernauts on the battlefield.
Grenadiers
Cost: $800
Function: Urban Combat
Description: Grenadiers are the ideal infantry for urban combat. Their grenades are capable of clearing infantry out of garrisoned buildings. They are also very effective against infantry, even when they are not garrisoned. In groups, Grenadier Squads are also quite effective against structures and light vehicles.
Engineer
Cost: $500
Function: Capture Buildings/Repair Vehicles
Description: Engineers are one of the most feared units of the battlefield because they are able to capture enemy buildings and neutral tech buildings. Besides, they can also capture the husks of super-vehicles (Tripod/Avatar/Juggernaut) and make them usable for your faction. These unarmed units are also able to repair friendly buildings and bridges.
Commando
Cost: $2000
Function: Elite Unit
Description: The Commando is the special operations unit of the Global Defense Initiative. It's armed with strong weapons good against infantry targets as well as C4 explosives to eliminate nearby buildings. It also features the same jumpjet system as the Zone Trooper.

Vehicles:

MCV
Cost: $2500
Function: Base Builder
Description: The Mobile Construction vehicle is slow, unarmed but has excellent armor and a lot of hitpoints. It can be deployed into a Construction Yard to build up your base. The Construction Yard can also be undeployed, which leaves you with this unit again.
Surveyor
Cost: $1500
Function: Outpost Builder
Description: This unit is built at the Construction Yard and gives you the chance to create another base: It can be deployed into an Outpost and thus let you construct buildings in it's radius. The Surveyor has less armor than the MCV, but it's faster.
Harvester
Cost: $1000
Function: Resource Collector
Description: The Tiberium Harvester collects Tiberium crystals and transports them to the refinery. It is reasonably armored, but is only armed with a light machine gun.
Pitbull Jeep
Cost: $700
Function: Light Recon \ Mobile A.A.
Description: This unit has a low build cost, is very quick and maneuverable and is equipped with missiles, which are useful against structures, vehicles and aircraft. The weak armor, however, makes it quite vulnerable. It can be upgraded later with a Mortar Launcher.
APC
Cost: $700
Function: Infantry Transport Unit
Description: The Armored Personnel Carrier is a medium armoured unit and armed with a machine gun. It can transport one squad of infantry and can also deploy a minefield on command.
Predator Tank
Cost: $1100
Function: Medium Assault Unit
Description: The Predator is the main tank unit of the GDI. It's reasonably armoured and is equipped with a decent cannon, making the Predator effective against vehicles and buildings. The tank's weapon is not very effective against Infantry units, and is especially weak against anti-tank infantry, but the tank can just run them over if ordered. The weapon is upgradable later to a railgun.
Mammoth Tank
Cost: $2500
Function: Heavy Assault Unit
Description: This is GDI's biggest tank unit. This quad-treaded behemoth sports a classic double-barreled turret and very heavy armor, as well as anti-aircraft missiles. The weapon is also upgradable from the Tech Centre, allowing the player to arm the Mammoth with railguns.
Juggernaut
Cost: $2200
Function: Artillery Unit
Description: The Juggernaut is used as an artillery unit that can fire from a great distance. Its weapons are extremely effective against vehicles and buildings and the unit features a decent armor. It will deploy itself before firing. It can also fire from anywhere on the map into anywhere in a Sniper Team's sight range. If destroyed, a husk of it will remain, which can be captured by Engineers.
Rig
Cost: $2000
Function: Mobile Repair Base
Description: The Rig is a small vehicle which can be deployed into a Battle Base. This structure can repair nearby ground vehicles and is armed with two Guardian Cannon turrets.

Aircraft:

Orca
Cost: $1100
Function: Medium Air Unit
Description: The GDI Orca is used as basic air unit by the GDI. It launches a barrage of anit-armor missiles at the enemy. The relatively weak armor, however, makes it very vulnerable to anti-air weapons. Orcas can also be upgraded with a stealth detection devices.
Firehawk
Cost: $1500
Function: Fast Assault Bomber
Description: The Firehawk is a very fast attack bomber. It is extremely effective against all types of ground units. Its armament can also be switched to anti-aircraft missiles, making it a very powerful interceptor too.
V-35 Ox
Cost: $500
Function: Aerial Transport Unit
Description: This Unit can quickly transport infantry and many types of vehicles across the map. It is used with reinforcement powers, and the 'Call for Transport' unit power.
